Plan - Roadmap - Analyze - Execute - Repeat: The Lifecyle for Storage Success
Steve Hight, Director of Strategic Technology Projects, Office of the CIO, Catholic Healthcare West

Catholic Healthcare West (CHW), the eighth largest hospital system in the nation, with about $7 billion in revenues, is driven by standards both in the healthcare and IT industries.  CHW has grown through acquisition, which has major implications to the IT infrastructure.  In healthcare, having control of your data and devices is critical.  The focus of this presentation is to discuss how complexity and change can be mitigated through well-defined standards and comprehensive planning.  A detailed storage roadmap helps prioritize the requirements, constraints and standards that must be adhered to for each unique storage network.  Hight will discuss how CHW manages a massive infrastructure of over 44,000 Exchange mailboxes, 28,000 end-user workstations and +3,000 Windows, Linux and VMware servers.

As a result of participating in this session, attendees will be able to:

  • Gain knowledge on how to deploy a scalable, flexible, unified storage solution with global namespace capabilities for easy data access and availability
  • Describe the latest tools and trends in utilization, compliance, provisioning and data classification/protection and how they can be delivered in a unified storage platform
  • Formulate the kinds of questions that you need to ask your vendor(s) before making a purchase decision.
