As storage networks have evolved, the support for SCSI multipath devices has become one of critical areas for storage management. An end SCSI device is typically configured with multiple paths within Fiber Channel(INCITS T10) or iSCSI(IETF) storage network in order to achieve load spread and failover among multiple paths to the device. This tutorial covers SNIA Multipath Management API(INCITS 412 -2006) which provides management interfaces to the standard capabilities defined in ANSI INCITS 408- 2005(SPC-3) standards. The API allows storage management applications to use common management interfaces for SCSI multipathing device administration across different transport technologies. An example implementation of the common interfaces is available as a sourceforge open source project.
